Kia Sonet Compact SUV India Launch in August 2020

Kia Sonet Launch Date

The long-awaited Kia Sonet sub-4 meter compact SUV is reportedly to be launched in the Indian market in August 2020. This will be the third Kia product in India, joining the popular Kia Seltos and the Kia Carnival. The company had showcased the Sonet compact SUV at the Auto Expo 2020, though in concept form.

The report further claims that the production-spec Kia Sonet will make its world debut in mid-2020 – around June-July. The SUV will go on sale in India in August 2020. Set to be Kia’s smallest SUV, the Sonet will sit below 4 meter in length and compliant with India’s small car regulation. Also See – Kis Sonet Key Features and Specs

Kia Sonet Compact SUV Specs

The Kia Sonet will share its platform and engine mechanics with the Hyundai Venue. However, the design and interior of the SUV is completely new. Instead of the boxy SUV-ish design, the Sonet has more crossover-ish and more compact styling. It has the Kia’s signature ‘Tiger Nose’ grille, sculpted bonnet, sharper LED headlamps, dual-tone bonnet with meshed grille and red-accents along with faux skid plates.

The concept had prominent roof rails, contrasting black roof, strong creases on the sculpted bonnet and uniquely styled C-pillar. At the back, the Sonet gets large tail-lights connected by LED light bar and dual-tone bumper. The concept had flush-type door handles, which are likely to be replaced by conventional doors. Adding to it, the SUV will have smaller wheels rather than the 18-inchers offered with the concept.

Kia Sonet Launch

The Kia Sonet will be equipped with several high-end features including a segment-largest 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a large sunroof and others. In India, the Sonet will rival the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and the upcoming SUVs including the Renault HBC and the Nissan Magnite.

The Kia Sonet compact SUV will be offered with 3 engine options- a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel. A 6-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will come as standard. The company will provide automatic gearbox option with all 3 engines to be offered with the Sonet compact SUV.
