Kia Seltos – The Best Selling SUV Since August 2019
March 2020 has been a tough month for the Indian automobile industry. Most of the car manufacturers have witnessed significant sales decline including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors. Last month, the company managed to sell 7,466 units of the Seltos SUV and 1,117 units of the Carnival MPV. Kia sold a total of 8,583 units including 2,585 units of exports.
Sales figures of both the models, however, are relatively lower than January and February 2020. In February, the Kia Seltos registered its highest ever monthly sales of 15,644 units and the Carnival recorded total sales of 1,620 units. The Korean carmaker sold a total of 81,784 units of the Seltos ever since its launch in August last year. Its monthly sales average is over 10,000 units. Read – Kia Seltos 7-Seater Under Development?
Due to COVID-19 pandemic and nationwide lockdown, Kia Motors India had halted its wholesale billings on 16th March, 2020. This has helped the company prevent unsold inventory at its dealerships. In order to provide “best in class ownership experience”, the carmaker has extended free service period by two months.
We have reported earlier that Kia is working on electric iteration of the Seltos SUV that will see a global release this year. The Seltos EV is likely to share its powertrain with the Hyundai Kona that comes with a 64kWh lithium-ion battery and a 204bhp electric motor. It might deliver a range of 400km on a single charge. If reports are to be believed, the carmaker might also bring in the 7-seater version of the Seltos in the future.
The Kia Sonet subcompact SUV will be the next big launch from the Korean carmaker in the country. Previewed at the 2020 Auto Expo, the Sonet is reported to hit showrooms in coming August. It will take head-to-head against the cars like Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Mahindra XUV300.
