Kia Seltos SUV – 3 Engines, 3 Automatic Gearboxes and Dimensions

Kia will be offering 3 BS6 compliant engine options and 4 different transmission options with the Seltos SUV.

South Korean automaker, Kia will officially start taking pre-orders for the upcoming Seltos premium hatchback from July 2019. The SUV is expected to be launched in our market in August 2019. The Kia Seltos made its debut on June 19, 2019 at an event in New Delhi, but the company did not reveal the key details including the technical specifications and dimensions of the SUV. Now, the engine specs and other details of the SUV have been revealed.

Kia will be offering 3 BS6 compliant engine options and 4 different transmission options with the Seltos SUV. It will be offered with 2 petrol and 1 diesel engine. The petrol version will receive the newly developed 1.5-litre Smartstream petrol engine that is capable of producing 115bhp of power and 144Nm of torque. The oil burner is a 1.5-litre CRDi unit that is good for 115bhp and 250Nm of torque.

Kia will also introduce the performance-oriented Seltos GT variant, which will be powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This powertrain churns out 140bhp of maximum power and 250Nm of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will come as standard. The company will also offer an automatic transmission option for each powertrain. While the 1.5L diesel engine gets a 6-speed torque convertor, the 1.5L petrol unit will come with a CVT automatic option. The turbocharged 1.4-litre T-GDI petrol engine will come with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

In terms of proportions, the Kia Seltos 5-seater premium SUV is 4,315mm long, 1,800mm wide and 1,620mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,610mm. Compared to the Hyundai Creta, the Seltos SUV is 45mm longer and 20mm wider. In fact, the SUV comes with a 20mm longer wheelbase than the Creta. The Kia Seltos has a ground clearance of 190mm, while the boot space stands at 433-litres which is around 28-litres more than that of the Creta. Kia will provide 2 different wheel sizes – 16-inch and 17-inch – wrapped with 205/65 section and 215/60 section tyres respectively.

The Kia Seltos is based on the front-wheel-drive platform, which will also underpin the next-gen Hyundai Creta. The SUV will challenge the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and the Renault Duster. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 11 lakh – Rs 16 lakh.
