Kia QYi SUV Spotted In India; To Challenge Venue and Brezza

Kia subcompact SUV

We have reported earlier that Kia Motors India is planning to launch two all-new models by the end of 2020. While the Kia Carnival luxury MPV will be the first one to hit showrooms, the Kia QYi (codename) subcompact SUV will come later. The sub-4-meter SUV from the Korean carmaker might make its debut in its concept form at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Prior to its official unveiling, the first spy pictures of the Kia QYi subcompact SUV have emerged on the web. A heavily camouflaged prototype was recently spotted during its test rounds in Delhi. Its body panels and LED taillights look production ready. It also features silver roof rails.

Upfront, the new Kia small SUV is likely to carry the familiar nose, LED headlamps and a bold grille. It will share its platform with the Hyundai Venue. Interior details of the vehicle are still under the wraps. Though, it’s likely to get connectivity features similar to the Kia Seltos.

At the heart of the new Kia QYi could be a BS6-compliant 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic gearbox option. The diesel models might come with a 1.4L motor pushing out power worth 90bhp. It will be paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

In the subcompact SUV space, the Kia QYi will lock horns against its sister sibling Hyundai Venue along with Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300. Its prices are likely to start from Rs 7 lakh and go up to Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
