Korean automaker, Kia Motors entered India with the Seltos SUV in August 2020. The SUV has received overwhelming response from buyers with bookings crossed 50,000 mark in just 2 months. In order to further strengthen its market position, Kia will launch 2 all-new cars in the country in 2020.
Coming early 2020, Kia will introduce the globally popular Carnival 7-seater premium MPV. To be launched at the Auto Expo 2020, the Kia Carnival will be the brand’s most expensive and flagship model in India. The second product scheduled for 2020 launch is an all-new sub-4 meter SUV, codenamed QYi. The compact SUV has already been spotted testing on the Indian roads.
The Kia QYi compact SUV will be unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo in a pre-production avatar. Media reports claim that the new SUV will be launched in mid-2020, most probably around July-August. The small SUV will be manufactured at the company’s Anantpur facility. It will challenge the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and the Maruti Vitara Brezza.
The Kia QYi will share a lot of things with the Venue. It will be based on the same platform that underpins the Hyundai Venue. The sub-4 meter SUV will be offered with 2 engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a de-tuned version of the 1.5-litre diesel engine. The turbo petrol engine is capable of producing 118bhp of power and 172Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic versions are likely to be on offer.
Similar to the Venue, Kia could also introduce the QYi compact SUV with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with manual gearbox. This engine-transmission combination will help Kia to price the new model aggressively. The Kia QYi compact SUV will sit below 4 meter in length. Most of the design highlights will be shared with the Seltos, which means an aggressive Tiger Nose grille up front, dual-barrel LED tail-lamps, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, flared wheel arches and others.
