Kia Motors India Trial Production To Begin Next Week

The mass production will be commenced by mid 2019.

The Korean auto major, Kia Motors is all set to begin its Indian innings with the SP concept based SUV in August, 2019. While trail production of the model will start on 29th January, the mass production will be commenced by mid 2019. The event will be graced by Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, and the Ambassador of The Republic of Korea to India, H.E. Shin Bongkil, along with other Kia officials.

Kia Motors has established its manufacturing plant in Yerramanchi village at Penugonda Mandal of Anantpura district in Andhra Pradesh. The facility will include vehicle assembly unit, body and paint shops, an engine shop, seat assembly, powertrain shop and utility centre. It has an installed annual production capacity of 3,00,000 units that will be further expanded to 100,000 more in near future. Read: Kia Sportage SUV – 5 Things To Know

The company says that 90% of the vehicles produced at the plant during the first phase will be for the domestic market and only 10% will be exported overseas. Kia Motors announced that it will invest up to $2 billion in India by 2021 and create over 10,000 jobs. Initially, it will employ 3,000 workers at its Anantapur facility.  The Andhra Pradesh based facility is Kia’s one of the largest production plant globally. Besides launching the Kia SP concept based SUV, the carmaker will foray into subcompact SUV space with an all-new product. Kia’s new compact SUV will be positioned against the Tata Nexon, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. Reports suggest the company is also considering a cross-hatch for the Indian market.
