Kia Carnival MPV India Specifications Revealed; Launch Confirmed

Kia Carnival India Launch

Set to rival Toyota Innova Crysta, the Kia Carnival MPV will be launched in March 2020.

Korean automaker, Kia is all set to the first car in India in mid-2019. The company will launch the SP2i SUV, which has been spotted multiple times on Indan roads. Kia has also confirmed that the second model to be launched in India will be the Kia Carnival MPV, which was showcased at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. This premium MPV will challenge the segment-leader Toyota Innova Crysta.

Scheduled to be launched in 2020, the Kia Carnival will come as a premium alternative to the Innova Crysta. This global model is larger than the Crysta and will be expensive. It will come as a CKD (completely knocked-down kit) unit and will be assembled at the company’s new Andhra Pradesh based facility. The Kia Carnival is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 22 lakh – Rs 28 lakh.

Ahead of the launch, the engine specifications and dimensions of the Carnival MPV have been leaked on the internet. In terms of proportions, the India-spec model is 5,155mm long, 1,985mm wide and 1,740mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,060mm. In the international markets, the MPV is available in 4 seating configurations – 7-seat, 8-seat, 9-seat and 11-seat. However, the India-spec model is most likely to come in the 7-seat configuration with captain seats for the second row. Also See – Kia Carnival – What To Expect?

Powering the Kia Carniva MPV is a 2.2-litre E-VGT diesel engine that is capable of producing 199bhp of power at 3,800rpm and 441Nm of torque at 17,50-2,750rpm. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Its direct rival Innova Crysta is available in 3 engine options – 2.4-litre diesel, 2.8-litre diesel and a 2.7-litre petrol.

With the Carnival MPV, Kia aims to grab some market share in the premium MPV segment that is currently being dominated by Innova Crysta. Kia will also launch a cross-hatchback based on the Rio hatchback in India in 2020. Moreover, the Korean automaker is also preparing a sub-4 meter SUV that is likely to debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo.
