New Suzuki Jimny Sierra To Share Petrol Engine With New Ciaz

The new-generation Suzuki Jimny Sierra will be powered by a new 104bhp, 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that will also power the new Ciaz facelift.

Japanese automaker, Suzuki has recently released the official images of the long-awaited new-gen Jimny SUV. The company hasn’t revealed the mechanics of the rugged version – Jimny Sierra. A leaked brochure of the new model has been leaked online, which revealed the engine, transmission and other details of the new Jimny.

The Japanese-spec Suzuki Jimny is powered by a 660cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine. The vehicle could also get a 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol or a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol unit. The leaked document reveals that the Jimny Sierra will be powered by a new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. For people not in the know, this engine will also power the upcoming Ciaz facelift and new-gen Ertiga MPV. It is capable of producing 104bhp of power and 138Nm of torque.

For transmission duties, the mini off-roader will get a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic unit. The SUV will also come with 4WD mode. The company claims that the new Jimny will continue to have off-roading abilities. The 4WD system comes with four-wheel High and four-wheel Low settings along with front and rear differentials. For braking, the SUV gets front disc and rear drum brakes. It also gets ABS with EBD as standard. The SUV rides on 16-inch front and 15-inch rear wheels shod with 175/80 and 195/80 tyres, respectively. The Jimny Sierra also gets a tail-gate mounted spare wheel.

Previous reports suggest that Suzuki will also launch the Jimny in India as a lifestyle product. The India-spec model will be a 5-door SUV and could be launched as a new-generation Gypsy. It is likely to be produced at Suzuki’s Sanand based plant in Gujarat.
