The Italian-owned American automaker, Jeep has introduced the Wrangler SUV with a petrol engine priced at Rs 56 lakh (ex-showroom, India). At this price, the new Jeep Wrangler petrol goes up against the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Mercedes-Benz GLC. The SUV’s new model draws its power from a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 motor producing 285bhp and 353Nm of torque.
Similar to its diesel counterpart, the petrol version comes with a 5-speed automatic gearbox, combined by command Trac all-wheel drivetrain system. Available in the five-door Unlimited body style, the Jeep Wrangler petrol looks exactly similar to the diesel model. The feature list, too, has been carried over from its diesel sibling. Initially, the SUV was introduced only with a 2.8-litre CRD turbocharged diesel powertrain churning out 197.2bhp and 460Nm.
The company will also bring-in the Jeep Grand Cherokee petrol with the same 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine. Though, here it will be mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and produce 10bhp extra power. While the Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel is available within the range of Rs 93.64 lakh – Rs 1.12 crore, the Wrangler Unlimited diesel costs at Rs 71.59 lakh (all, ex-showroom).
The American SUV manufacturer is also planning to introduce the new Jeep Compass in the coming months. This new Jeep SUV will lock horns against Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in India. Though the technical details of the vehicle are still under the wraps, it is likely to get a 2.0-litre Tigershark petrol and a 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel engine.
