Jeep Renegade SUV is coming to India- Report

Jeep Renegade Front

Fiat India will introduce the Jeep brand in the Indian car market next year. The first two Jeep products to be launched in the country will be the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee, as completely built units. Interestingly, the company is also planning to launch a new SUV to rival against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. The new SUV will replace the Jeep Patriot/Compass, and will be manufactured at Fiat’s Ranjangaon facility. If media reports are to be believed, the company is also aiming to launch the Renegade SUV for the Indian market in 2017.

Based on Fiat’s US Small platform which also underpins the 500X crossover, the Renegade is a 5-seater rugged SUV. It measures slightly over 4 metres in length. Despite being small in size, the Renegade has all the designing traits and off-roading credentials of larger Wranger. The signature front grille is complemented by round shaped headlamps, wide airdams, fog lamps, upright stance, wide fenders, small and rude taillights, sturdy roofline, etc are few additions which gives it the Jeep’s heritage touch with futuristic appeal.

The Jeep Renegade is offered with two engine options – 2.4-litre Tigershark and 1.4-litre turbocharged engine. While the former is good for 184bhp and 240Nm of torque, the 1.4L turbocharged unit churns out 160bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. The company might also add a more powerful 2.0-litre 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel Multijet II engine. All the engines will be coupled to a 9-speed gearbox.
