Jeep Renegade Is Not Coming To India Anytime Soon

Jeep could launch the next-generation Renegade SUV in India sometime in 2022.

It was speculated that Jeep Renegade compact SUV will arrive in India in 2019. However, a recent media report claims that the current-generation Renegade will not come to India. Instead, the American automaker is considering the next-generation Renegade for our market. Before the next-gen Renegade, Jeep will launch a sub-4 meter SUV to rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza in 2020 and a 7-seater SUV based on the Company by 2021.

It is safe to assume that the next-gen Jeep Renegade will arrive in India sometime in 2022. The company is currently selling the Compass, Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. While the Compass is locally developed at FCA’s Ranjangaon facility, the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee are directly imported as CBU.

The next-generation Jeep Renegade will directly rival against the Hyundai Creta, which will also receive a new-gen model in 2020. In fact, the next Creta will come in two seating layouts – 5 and 7. The next-gen Renegade is likely to share the mechanics with the Compass, which includes a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel. However, the engines will be de-tuned for better efficiency. For transmission duties, the SUV could get a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Not just these 3 all-new models – sub-4 meter SUV, 7-seater SUV and Renegade, Jeep will also launch the trail-rated version of the Compass and the next-gen Wrangler. The Jeep Compass Trailhawk will come with diesel automatic option.
