Upcoming Jeep 7-seater SUV will be developed on the Small Wide 4×4 platform that underpins the Renegade and Compass.

It is no secret that Jeep is working on the 7-seater SUV based on the Compass. Rumoured to be called the Jeep Grand Compass, the upcoming SUV has been spotted testing several times. This time, the SUV was caught testing in Brazil. The new spy images reveal interesting details about the upcoming Jeep 7-Seater SUV.

Known as Project 598, the upcoming 7-seater SUV is codenamed as Jeep Low-D. The new model is based on the same Small Wide Platform that underpins the Compass and the Renegade. The report claims that the rear suspension of the SUV is the same as the Renegade, while the front is shared with the Compass.

The SUV’s front design will have visual changes, which will be similar to the restyled Compass scheduled to be unveiled at the end of 2020. The 7-seater SUV will look similar to the Compass until pillar “B” and the majority of the changes are added to the rear profile. The length of the SUV has been stretched and the wider rear will allow Jeep to add third-row of seats.

The wheelbase and the rear overhang of the SUV have also been increased. If reports are to be believed, the wheelbase will be increased by around 100-150mm to accommodate the 7-seater SUV. Behind B pillar, the new model looks completely different. The rear design has been changed with more flat profile. The interior of the SUV is expected to be shared with the Compass facelift, which is scheduled to be launched in the end of 2020.

The 7-seater Jeep SUV will be designed and developed on the Small Wide 4×4 platform that underpins the Compass and Renegade. However, Jeep will work on reinforcements on the platform to accommodate a larger SUV. In fact, this platform will underpin the next-gen Jeep Renegade scheduled to be launched in 2022.

The upcoming Jeep Grand Compass will be powered by a 2.0-litre MJD diesel engine that also powers the 5-seater Compass in India. However, this engine will be tuned for higher power and torque. In the current form, the 2.0L engine produces 170bhp and 350Nm. The company is likely to use the twin-turbocharged version of this engine, which is likely to produce over 200bhp of power. The new SUV will directly rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4 and others in its category.
