Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cherokee SRT Launched: Prices Start at Rs 93.64 lakh

The Jeep Grand Cherokee will come with two engine options – a 3.0-litre V6 diesel (regular variant) and a 6.4-litre HEMI V8 petrol (SRT performance version).

August 30, 2016 : Fiat Chrysler Automobile has finally launched the iconic Jeep brand in the Indian car market. The company’s product portfolio for India comprises of the Jeep Wrangler, SRT Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Cherokee brand is available in two grades – Limited and Summit along with the Grand Cherokee SRT performance version. The SUV will be bought and sold as CBU (Completely Built-Up Unit) in the country. While the Limited variant is priced at INR 93.64 lakh, the Summit variant is tagged at Rs 1.03 crore. The SRT performance version is tagged at Rs 1.12 crore.

The Grand Cherokee Limited and Summit are powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel motor that is capable of producing 243PS of power and 570Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to all-4 wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox with steering-mounted paddle shifters. The vehicle also gets Selec-Terrain system, while the Summit also gets a limited slip differential. FCA claims that the Jeep Cherokee returns 12.8kmpl of mileage. The range-topping SRT Cherokee is powered by a 6.4-litre Hemi V8 N/A petrol engine that produces 470bhp of power and 630Nm of torque. Transmission duties are carried out by an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This variant also gets Launch control, brembo disc brakes and Selec Track system.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee looks masculine and sporty. The car features a gloss black front fascia with a conventional six tooth grille flanked by slimmer automatic headlamps and bumper. It also gets low beam daytime running headlamps, premium fog lamps and LED tail lamps. With aggressive stance, strong lines and massive haunches, this premium SUV will appeal a wide audience.

The standard model of the SUV measures 4,828 mm in length, 1,943 mm in width and 1,802 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,915 mm. It comes with a ground clearance of 206 mm. On the other hand, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT is 4,846 mm long, 1,954 mm wide and 1,749 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,915 mm. Its ground clearance stands at 210 mm. This makes it 18 mm longer, 11 mm wider and 53 mm shorter than the regular model. The SUV comes fitted with 18-inch polished aluminum alloy wheels, while the top-end SRT variant rides on high-performance 5-spoke 20-inch P295/45ZR20 Pirelli Scorpion Verde all-season run-flat tyres.

Inside, the premium SUV looks quite premium and spacious. It offers ample legroom and headroom for both front and rear passengers. The luggage carrying capacity is large that can be increased by folding rear seats down 60:40 or fully flat. There is a dashboard with lots of gizmos and center console with ergonomic control layout. Its large steering wheel houses a multi information display, audio and cruise controls.

The instrument console is positioned right behind the steering wheel. There is a LCD flat panel where the speedometer can be displayed in either digital or analogue mode. Besides this, the SUV also hosts a wide range of safety features like electronic stability control (ESC), anti-lock 4-sheel disc brakes, enhanced accident response system, hill descent control, hill start assist, keyless entry, 3-point center rear seat belt, active head restraints, traction control, cruise control, etc.

In India, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will be offered with two powertrain options – a 3.0-litre EcoDiesel turbocharged V6 diesel (regular variant) and a 6.4-litre HEMI V8 petrol (SRT performance version). While the former generates a maximum power of 240bhp and 570Nm of torque, the latter one is good for 469.17bhp and 630Nm. Both the engines are paired to an 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission.

The Grand Cherokee SRT will come with the Quadra-Trac four-wheel drive system, while the standard Limited and Summit variants will be supported by the Quadra-Trac II and Quadra Drive II four-wheel drive system respectively. The SUV also comes with three driving modes- Automatic, Manual and Sport.
