Jeep Avenger SUV Gets 1.2L Turbo Petrol Engine; New Details Out

Jeep had showcased the Avenger SUV as the brand’s entry-level SUV in Europe and other international markets. The Jeep Avenger has now entered the online configurator on the brand’s website in Europe. The configurator also confirms that the Avenger will come with EV as well as turbo petrol engine. For people not in the know, Jeep had showcased the electric version of the compact SUV.

The online configurator reveals that the Jeep Avenger will be equipped with a 100bhp, 1.2-litre GSE turbo petrol engine. It will also come with an electric version with 550km range in the urban cycle. The ICE version will be offered with manual gearbox, and the automatic version to come at a later stage. The available version is 1st Edition.

This confirmation of the ICE version suggests that the Avenger will be a volume generator for Jeep globally. The electric version will be positioned as a premium model, while the ICE version will appeal to wider audience.

Measuring 4.08 meters in length, the Jeep Avenger is designed and developed on the modular CMP platform that underpins the Peugeot 2008, DS Crossback and Opel Mokka. In fact, the Citroen C3 hatchback is also based on the heavily localised version of the CMP architecture. For the European markets, the Jeep Avenger will be produced at the brand’s Tychy plant in Polant.

It is expected that the Jeep Avenger will also make its way to our market. The India-spec model is most likely to measure around 4 meters in length. The SUV will be locally produced at Jeep’s Ranjangaon facility. The plant could also act as an export production hub for right-hand-drive markets. Moreover, the Avenger’s platform and the 1.2L turbo petrol engine are also developed in India by Citroen for its C3 compact hatchback.
