New Jeep 7-seater SUV Spotted Testing

New Jeep 7 Seater SUV Concept

If launched in India, the new Jeep 7-seater SUV will take on the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) India introduced its iconic SUV brand – Jeep – in August 2016. Initially, the company brought its two SUV models – Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. However, the extremely high pricing worked against the carmaker and both the SUVs failed to do well for the company.

Aiming to establish its market, the American carmaker entered into the entry-level premium SUV segment with the all-new Compass. And it was the product that turned Jeep’s fortune in the Indian market. In order to further expand its product lineup, the company will bring in a sub-4 meter compact SUV that will go up against the Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza.

Besides this, Jeep is working on an all-new 7-seater SUV which was recently spotted during its test rounds in China. If media reports are to be believed, the carmaker might introduce its new fully-fledged premium SUV against Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in India.  The new Jeep 7 Seater SUV could make its world debut at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show that will take place in April 2018. It is likely to enter production towards the end of next year. Read – Top 5 Jeep Compass Alternatives

Rumour has it that the new Jeep 7 Seater SUV could be christened as ‘Jeep Grand Commandeer’. The latest spy pictures reveal some design bits of the SUV including headlamps, taillights and tailpipes. Likely to be based on a unibody platform, the test mule seems to the production version of the Jeep Yuntu concept that had its global debut at the Auto Shanghai 2017. The latter one was painted in dual-tone shades featuring 7-slot radiator grille, trapezoidal wheel arches with large wheels, panoramic glass roof, pronounced underbody cladding and suicide rear doors. While the Jeep Yuntu concept was equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, the new Jeep 7 Seater SUV is reported to use a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine making 270bhp. This gasoline motor could also be introduced on the 2019 Jeep Cherokee facelift. Speculations are also on rife that the new Jeep 7 Seater SUV could get a hybrid version sharing its engine with the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid – i.e. 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 petrol mill and two electric motors.
