The first Jawa 300cc bike competes against the Royal Enfield Bullet/Classic 350 range.
Classic Legends, a subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra, has finally re-introduced the iconic Jawa motorcycles in the Indian market. Online bookings for the new Jawa and Jawa 42 are open at the company’s official website. Though, the deliveries will commence early next year. The new Jawa bikes offer a perfect blend of retro-styling and modern technology. Here we bring you 5 things we know about the new Jawa motorcycles.
1. Attractive Pricing
India has received three new Jawa motorcycles – Jawa, Jawa 42 and Jawa Perak – priced at Rs 1.64 lakh, Rs 1.55 lakh and Rs 1.89 lakh respectively. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi. With such aggressive pricing, these new bikes will take on the Royal Enfield Bullet and Classic 350 range. While the Bullet 350 is priced at Rs 1.34 lakh, the Classic 350 costs Rs 1.68 lakh (all, ex-showroom Delhi).

2. More Powerful Than Old Jawa Bikes
Mahindra has equipped a 293cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine to the new Jawa bikes. This BSVI-ready motor, which is essentially the tuned version of Mahindra Mojo’s engine, delivers power worth 27bhp and 28Nm of torque. Classic Legends claim that this engine has been designed to mimic the older 2-stroke Jawa engines. It features faux cooling fins and twin-exhaust layout.
This four-stroke, fuel-injection motor is the first made-in-India motorcycle engine that meets the upcoming BS6 emission norms. For transmission duties, the bike has a 6-speed gearbox. It’s claimed to offer good mid-range and a flat torque curve. The company says that the engineers have managed to achieve the original Jawa’s exhaust note without compromising with the performance.
3. Retro Styling
The new Jawa motorcycles have been designed and developed from scratch and have no relation with the Jawa bikes sold globally. Though, the bikes’ design is inspired from the older retro-styled Jawas. Unlike the original units, the new one has better build quality and lower centre of gravity. Styling bits such as bulbous fuel tank, round headlamp, fenders, seat and chain guard add to its retro looks.
4. Pays Tribute To First Ever Jawa Bike
The company says that the 2018 Jawa bikes pay homage to the first-ever original Jawa motorcycle. For people not in the know, the first Jawa model was equipped with an 18bhp, 500cc engine that was introduced back in October 1929.
5. Royal Enfield Bullet/Classic 350 Rival
The 2018 Jawa 300cc bikes will give a tough fight to the Royal Enfield Bullet and Classic 350 motorcycles. Compared to the RE Classic 350, the Jawa bike is slightly more powerful. While the former delivers 19.8bhp with 28Nm of torque, the 2018 Jawa 300 bike produces a maximum power of 27bhp and 28Nm of torque.
