In India, the Isuzu MU-X SUV will come as CKD unit, and assembled at the carmaker’s new Sri City plant in Andhra Pradesh.
Initially, the Isuzu MU-X SUV will be offered in two trims - 4X4 MT and AT - powered by a 3.0-litre engine.
The much-awaited 2017 Isuzu MUX SUV will finally go on sale in the Indian market on May 11, 2017. The Japanese automaker had launched the D-Max V-Cross lifestyle pick-up truck last year. Isuzu has already revealed the SUV via official pictures. The company will first launch the 4×4 MT and AT variants of the SUV, which will be followed by 4×2 variants in the near future. This 7 seater SUV will be brought into India via CKD route and then assembled at the company’s new Sri City-based plant in Andhra Pradesh.
It will come as a replacement for the MU-7, which failed to live up the Isuzu’s expectations in India. To be launched as flagship product, the SUV will lock horns against Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and other full-fledged SUVs. Besides launching new product, the Japanese brand also aims to increase its dealership network.

Isuzu’s new 7-seater SUV might come as an affordable option for buyers looking for 7-seater family car. While its rivals – Fortuner and Endeavour – come in the range of Rs 25.92 lakh – Rs 31.12 lakh and Rs 23.78 lakh – Rs 30.89 lakh respectively, it could be priced around Rs 23 lakh – Rs 27 lakh. With competitive pricing, this new SUV will surely appeal its target buyers.

Isuzu will launch the Thailand-spec MUX in the Indian market, which is available with two engine options – a RZ4E-TC 1.9L turbo diesel and a 4JJ1-TCX 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine. The former is good for 148bhp of power at 3,600rpm and a peak torque of 350Nm at 1,800rpm – 2,600rpm. On the other hand, the 3.0L unit is capable of producing 175bhp of power at 3,600rpm and 380Nm of torque between 1,800rpm – 2,800rpm. The 1.9L diesel version comes with the choice of a 6-speed manual and an automatic gearbox, supported by two-wheel drive system. On the other hand, the more powerful motor comes with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drivetrain.
Initially, the company will introduce the 3.0L diesel engine equipped variant of the SUV. This version is exclusively available with 4WD drive system. In future, the Japanese carmaker might also introduce a more affordable version of the SUV with a 148bhp, 1.9-litre engine at a later stage.
Dimensionally, the MUX 7-seater SUV is 5,020mm in length, 1,860mm in width and 1,785mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,095mm. It comes with a ground clearance of 225mm, which enables the SUV to tackle Indian rugged road conditions. The SUV gets a fuel tank of 76-litres
Designed on the Chevrolet Trailblazer, the new Isuzu SUV shares several design and styling elements with the former. The upfront of the car looks quite aggressive with new projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights and light guides, new grille and bumper, fog lamps with chrome garnish housing. The side profile is accentuated with flared wheel arches and a new pair of 18-inch alloy wheels. On the contrary, the rear design has sporty appeal. It features new LED tail lights and the Trailblazer-inspired wraparound rear windshield.
Similar to the exterior, the cabin of the Isuzu MUX borrows most of its components from the Trailblazer. The new beige interior theme with revised dashboard with wood trim and new seat upholstery add a premium touch to its appearance. Feature-wise, the new Isuzu SUV comes loaded with a range comfort and safety features. The car offers a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and Bluetooth connectivity, a silver accented steering wheel, roof-mounted 10-inch DVD monitor, 6-way electrically adjustable driver seat, split and fold 2nd and 3rd row seats, climate control, 12 cup holders and 19 cubby holes.
