It’s been over a year since Isuzu Motors India launched the MU-X SUV in the country. While globally the facelifted version of the SUV is already on sale, the carmaker also planning to give it an update in the Indian market as well. The heavily camouflaged test mule of the new Isuzu MUX 2019 facelift was recently caught on camera during its testing rounds.
For the 2019 model year, the SUV will see minor updates inside and out. Though, the engine mechanism will remain unchanged. In the premium SUV space, the 2019 Isuzu MUX will continue to lock horns against the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. Just like the pre-facelift model, the 2019 Isuzu MUX will be brought to India via CKD (completely knocked down) route and assemble the kit at its new Sri City-based facility in Andhra Pradesh. Currently, the SUV is available in two trims – 4X2 AT and 4X4 AT – priced at Rs 24.83 lakh and Rs 26.80 lakh (all, ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. The updated model might witness a minor price hike. 2019 Isuzu MUX facelift will retain the existing engine setup. It will continue to derive its power from a 3.0-litre, 4-cylinder DOHC turbocharged diesel engine benefited with fuel injection technology. This motor dishes out a maximum power output of 174bhp (177PS) at 3,600rpm against 380Nm of torque between 1,800rpm – 2,800rpm. Transmission on offer will remain the same – i.e. a 5-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift and brake shift lock. The MU-X also features a 4X4 drivetrain system, electronic stability control (ESC) and traction control system (TCS) with ‘shift on the fly’.
As mentioned above, the SUV will continue to use the 3.0L turbo diesel powertrain. Therefore, the fuel economy of the vehicle will also remain unchanged. On the fuel efficiency ground, the Isuzu MUX facelift beats all its rivals. While the Fortuner (2.8 4WD AT) and Endeavour (3.2 4X4 AT) deliver a claimed mileage of 12.9kmpl and 10.91kmpl respectively, the MUX returns 13.8kmpl. The 2019 Isuzu MUX will be offered in the same regular four colour schemes – Silky White Pearl, Orchid Brown Mica, Cosmic Black Mica and Titanium Silver Metallic.
No changes will be made to its dimensions. The 2019 Isuzu MUX facelift will sit on a 2,845mm long wheelbase, and measure 4,825mm in length, 1,860mm in width and 1,825mm in height. This makes it 30mm longer and 5mm wider than its closest rival – Fortuner. Though, it’s 67mm shorter than the Endeavour. The SUV will stand on a 220mm of ground clearance making it compatible for rough terrains. It will offer a fuel tank capacity of 65-litres.
The updated version of the MUX SUV will see subtle design changes enhancing its masculine appeal. The twin-slate chrome grille will be revised. The SUV will also get LED headlamps with LED DRLs (daytime running lights). The revised front bumper and larger round fog lamps and chrome inserts give a refreshing look to its face. Save for the new set of alloy wheels, the side design of the SUV will remain unchanged. It will feature the same chromed ORVMs and door handles, aluminium side steps and silver roof rails. As of now, the interior details of the SUV are not available. Though, it is likely to receive minor upgrades. The twin-cockpit ergonomic interior design with dual-tone ivory-grey theme could be carried over from the current model. Features such as a 7-inch touchscreen entertainment system with AUX, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, “Live Surround Sound” rood-mounted sound system with 8-speakers, roof mounted 10-inch DVD entertainment monitor, electo-luminescent meters with Multi information display (MDI), climate control AC, cruise control system will also continue to be on offer.
For ensuring passengers’ safety, the SUV will offer Anti-skid brake system (ABS) with Electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), Emergency brake assist (EBA), Electronic stability control (ESC), Traction control system (TCS), Hill start assist (HSA), dual front airbags, rear parking assist camera, 3 ISOFOX child seat anchorage for 2nd row seats, emergency locking retractor for all seat belts and child proof rear door locks. Besides this, the car will also come with the anti-theft alarms system, driver seat belt warning, audible and visual headlight ON and parking light –ON warning, engine immobilizer, side anti-intrusion bars inside side doors, etc.
