In India, the Isuzu MU-X SUV is being offered in two trims - 4X4 MT and AT - powered by a 3.0-litre engine.
While the GST (Goods and Service Tax) will be enforced from July 1, 2017, the tax figures for the automobile industry have already been revealed. Car manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz and Ford have begun passing GST benefits to customers. The new tax system has also sliced prices of the recently-launched Isuzu MUX premium 7-seater SUV. Available in two trims – 2WD and 4WD – the all-new MU-X’s is now available at Rs 22.4 lakh – Rs 24.4 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. Before GST implication, the SUV was priced at Rs 23.99 lakh – Rs 25.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). In this price range, the 2017 Isuzu MU-X competes against the segment leaders – Toyota Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
The new Isuzu SUV shares its platform with the D-Max V-Cross pickup truck, and carries masculine stance. With rugged appearance and affordable pricing, the MUX will surely appeal target buyers. Sitting on a long wheelbase, the SUV offers a generous cabin space loaded with multiple comfort and safety features. Key features include a 7-inch infotainment system with 8-speakers, 6-way power adjustable driver seat, a roof mounted 10-inch DVD entertainment monitor, automatic climate control and cruise control. For safety provision, the car gets standard dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, emergency brake assist, ESC, Traction control system, hill start assist, 3-ISOFIX for 2nd row seats, ELR for all seat belts and rear parking assist camera.
Power for the 2017 Isuzu MU-X comes from a 174bhp, 3.0-litre VGS tubro diesel engine paired to a 5-speed sequential shift automatic gearbox. The SUV is available with 4X4 and 4X2 drive setup, supported by terrain command control with ‘shift on the fly’ 4X4 select dial. Fuel economy of this oil burner stands at 13.8kmpl. The Japanese carmaker is also offering a standard warranty of 3 years/ 1,00,000km on the SUV. The company will import the MU-X to India via CKD (completely knocked down) route and assemble the kit at its new Sri City-based facility in Andhra Pradesh. With all-new Isuzu MU-X, the Japanese carmaker has entered in the fierce premium SUV space in India, which is already dominated by Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. The new Isuzu SUV prices have been slashed down by Rs 1.5 lakh, all thanks to the GST benefits. Now, the 2WD and 4WD variant of the car are available at Rs 22.4 lakh and Rs 24.4 lakh (all, ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. At this price, the MU-X becomes the most affordable premium SUVs in India. Its closest rivals – Fortuner and Endeavour – are available within the range of Rs 25.92 lakh – Rs 31.12 lakh and Rs 23.78 lakh – Rs 30.89 lakh respectively.

Under the skin, the MUX hearts a 3.0-litre, 4-cylinder DOHC turbocharged diesel engine boosted with fuel injection technology. This BS4-compliant motor makes a top power of 174bhp (177PS) at 3,600rpm with 380Nm of torque between 1,800rpm – 2,800rpm. Power is derived to the wheels via a 5-speed automatic gearbox with sequential shift and brake shift lock. The MU-X also features a 4X4 drivetrain system, electronic stability control (ESC) and traction control system (TCS) with ‘shift on the fly’.
When it comes to fuel efficiency, the new Isuzu SUV beats all its rivals. While the Fortuner (2.8 4WD AT) and Endeavour (3.2 4X4 AT) deliver a claimed mileage of 12.9kmpl and 10.91kmpl respectively, the MUX return 13.8kmpl.
The new Isuzu SUV comes in a choice of four paint jobs – Silky White Pearl, Orchid Brown Mica, Cosmic Black Mica and Titanium Silver Metallic.

The new Isuzu SUV sits on a 2,845mm long wheelbase, and measures 4,825mm in length, 1,860mm in width and 1,825mm in height. This makes it 30mm longer and 5mm wider than its closest rival – Fortuner. Though, it’s 67mm shorter than the Endeavour. The SUV stands on a 220mm of ground clearance making it compatible for rough terrains. It has a fuel tank capacity of 65-litres.
Designed on the new-generation D-Max pickup truck, the new Isuzu SUV has more premium appeal than its predecessor. Face of the SUV has been styled aggressive with a twin-slat chrome grille, projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, recessed fog lamps with chrome accents, dual-tone metallic grey body-coloured bumper and pronounced bonnet with bold creases. The SUV runs on 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels fitted with 255/65 tubeless tyres. Features such as chromed ORVMs, chrome door handles, silver roof rails and aluminium side steps further accentuate its side appearance. Towards the rear, the car gets LED tail lights, tailgate garnish and a curved glass windshield.
The twin-cockpit ergonomic interior design with dual-tone ivory-grey theme makes it look premium from inside. The soft leather appointed seats, leather wrapped steering wheel with easy-select cruise and audio controls add more its sporty look. The car also receives piano black finish on centre console, gear shift bezel and blower vents all side door trims. While the side doors inner levers, front console cup holders and gear shift bezel get chrome finish, leather-wrapped steering, auto AC console and shift-on-the-fly 4X4 knob have bright silver finish.
In terms of features, the all-new Isuzu SUV comes with a host of comfort and safety equipment. The car gets a 7-inch touchscreen entertainment system with AUX, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, “Live Surround Sound” rood-mounted sound system with 8-speakers, roof mounted 10-inch DVD entertainment monitor, electo-luminescent meters with Multi information display (MDI), climate control AC, cruise control system and lots of comfort fitments.
This 7-seater SUV has anatomically designed front bucket seats, 6-way power adjustable driver seat, 60:40 split 2nd row seats with fold away centre arm rest and one-touch fold and tumble 2nd row seats. The 3rd row seats have 50:50 split fold ratio. All seats come with adjustable headrests including centre seat. There is lots of in-cabin storage space including glove box with light, upper utility box on IP, 3 power outlets, 2 USB ports, front floor console and 2nd row armrest with two cup holders, IP with two retractable cup holders-cum-utility boxes and more.
