The Isuzu MU-X SUV is likely to come with a RZ4E-TC 1.9-litre turbo diesel or a 4JJ1-TCX 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine.
Isuzu Motors has teased the 2017 Isuzu MUX SUV via an official video revealing its minimal exterior details. While the new MUX will go on sale in Thailand on 4th March, it might arrive in the Indian market in April 2017. This 7-seater SUV will be assembled via CKD units at the carmaker’s new Sri City-based plant in Andhra Pradesh. In India, the Isuzu MUX SUV will be introduced as a replacement to the MU-7, and go up against the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
The Japanese carmaker majorly serves the commercial space with the D-Max pick-up, which was launched back in 2012 in India. Though the company also has a 7-seater SUV – MU-7 – that couldn’t bring many buyers due to very limited number of sales outlet the company has. Now with its focus on network expansion, the company is also thinking of launching the Isuzu MUX SUV in India. In fact, the company has already imported the vehicle for testing purpose.
At the heart of the Isuzu MUX will be the RZ4E-TC 1.9-litre turbo diesel and the 4JJ1-TCX 3.0-litre turbo diesel engine. While the former is capable of producing power worth 148bhp at 3,600rpm and 350Nm of torque at 1,800rpm – 2600rpm, the latter one offers 174.5bhp at 3,600rpm and 380Nm at 1,800rpm – 2,800rpm. For performing transmission duties, there will be a 5-speed manual and an automatic gearbox.
The new Isuzu SUV shares its platform and multiple design cues with the Chevrolet Trailblazer. Up front, the SUV wears new projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, new grille and bumper, fog lamps with chrome garnish housing. Towards the side, the car features flared wheel arches and a new pair of 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear design looks sporty with new LED tail lights and the Trailblazer-inspired wraparound rear windshield.
The interior of the Isuzu MUX, too, looks identical to the Trailblazer. The teaser reveals that the vehicle will have new beige interior theme, revised dashboard with wood trim and new seat upholstery. The new Isuzu SUV comes with a range of comfort and safety features including a 6-speaker touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and Bluetooth connectivity, a silver accented steering wheel, roof-mounted 10-inch DVD monitor, 6-way electrically adjustable driver seat, split and fold 2nd and 3rd row seats, climate control, 12 cup holders and 19 cubby holes.
Reports suggest that new Isuzu SUV might hit the Indian shores in April 2017. Though, the company hasn’t made any official word about its launch.
