In India, the Isuzu MU-X SUV will come as CKD unit, and assembled at the carmaker’s new Sri City plant in Andhra Pradesh.
The Thailand-spec Isuzu MU-X SUV comes with two diesel engine options - a RZ4E-TC 1.9-litre turbo and a 4JJ1-TCX 3.0-litre turbo.
Isuzu Motors has finally revealed the India-bound 2017 Isuzu MUX SUV via official pictures. Soon-to-be-launched in Thailand, the new MUX will make its way to India in April 2017. In India, this 7-seater SUV will be assembled via CKD units at the company’s new Sri City-based plant in Andhra Pradesh. To be introduced as a replacement to MU-7, the Isuzu MUX SUV will take on the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and other fully-fledged SUVs.
The Japanese carmaker majorly serves the commercial space with the D-Max pick-up, which was launched back in 2012 in India. Though the company also has a 7-seater SUV – MU-7 – that couldn’t bring many buyers due to very limited number of sales outlets. Now with its focus on network expansion, the company is also planning to bring the Isuzu MUX SUV in India. In fact, the company has already imported the vehicle for testing purpose.
Reports suggest that new Isuzu SUV might arrive in the Indian market in April 2017. Though, the company hasn’t made any official word about its launch.

Isuzu’s new 7-seater SUV might come as an affordable option for buyers looking for 7-seater family car. While its rivals – Fortuner and Endeavour – come in the range of Rs 25.92 lakh – Rs 31.12 lakh and Rs 23.78 lakh – Rs 30.89 lakh respectively, it could be priced around Rs 23 lakh – Rs 27 lakh.
Engine options for the Thailand-spec Isuzu MUX include – a RZ4E-TC 1.9-litre turbo diesel and a 4JJ1-TCX 3.0-litre turbo diesel. While the former dishes out a top power of 148bhp (150PS) at 3,600rpm and 350Nm of torque at 1,800rpm – 2600rpm, the latter one delivers 175bhp (177PS) at 3,600rpm and 380Nm at 1,800rpm – 2,800rpm. The 1.9L diesel version comes with the choice of a 6-speed manual and an automatic gearbox, supported by two-wheel drive system. On the other hand, the more powerful motor comes with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drivetrain. Technical details of the India-bound model are yet to be revealed.
The new Isuzu SUV shares its platform and multiple design cues with the Chevrolet Trailblazer. Up front, the SUV wears new projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights and light guides, new grille and bumper, fog lamps with chrome garnish housing. Towards the side, the car features flared wheel arches and a new pair of 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear design looks sporty with new LED tail lights and the Trailblazer-inspired wraparound rear windshield.
The interior of the Isuzu MUX, too, looks identical to the Trailblazer. The car has a new beige interior theme with revised dashboard with wood trim and new seat upholstery. The new Isuzu SUV hosts a bunch of comfort and safety features such as a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and Bluetooth connectivity, a silver accented steering wheel, roof-mounted 10-inch DVD monitor, 6-way electrically adjustable driver seat, split and fold 2nd and 3rd row seats, climate control, 12 cup holders and 19 cubby holes.
