Honda Cars India (HCI) slipped to the fifth position from the third spot.

The month of September has been a little hard for the automobile industry, especially for the passenger vehicle segment. Compared to the September 2017, the passenger car industry witnessed sales drop of 16,395 units accounting de-growth by 5.4 per cent. The major reasons behind the fall are said to be the increasing fuel and car prices, Kerala flood, erratic monsoon and higher dealer inventory.

Besides all the odds, Maruti Suzuki registered total sales of 1,51,512 units accounting a growth of 0.7 per cent. While the Maruti Arena dealerships clocked 1,20,982 units sales, the premium Nexa dealerships recorded sales of 30,530 units as opposed to 26,497 units of the same month last year. The second spot was retained by the South Korean carmaker – Hyundai that recorded sales of 47,781 units against 50,028 units of September, 2017. The company’s domestic sales soared by 4.5 per cent. Mahindra & Mahindra also witnessed a decline of 14.9 per cent at 19,942 units compared to 23,429 units sold in September last year.

Mahindra’s all-new Marazzo premium MPV, however, is doing well for the carmaker.  In August 2018, the carmaker dispatched over 1,700 units of the vehicle to its dealers. Currently, the MPV is reported to command a waiting period up to 6 weeks (select variants) in Bangalore and Coimbatore.

Tata Motors stood at number 4 with total sales of 18,429 units as opposed to 17,286 units of the same month last year. The home-grown carmaker recorded a growth of 6.6 per cent. The cumulative domestic sales of the company grew by 40 per cent with 339,186 units against 242,787 units from April to September, 2017.

Honda Cars India slipped to the fifth position from the third spot. The Japanese carmaker that registered sales of 19,970 units in August, managed to sell 14,866 units in September, 2018. In September 2017, the company had sold 18,257 units witnessing a drastic fall by 18.6 per cent.
