Hyundai Creta is the most fuel efficient SUV in its category. It’s 115bhp, 1.5L turbocharged diesel engine is claimed to deliver a mileage of 21.4kmpl. The same motor with automatic gearbox returns 18.3kmpl. The Creta diesel manual variants are available in price range of Rs 10.35 lakh – Rs 15.59 lakh (ex-showroom).

The third spot has been grabbed by Maruti Suzuki’s S-Cross crossover. The model comes powered by a 1.5L, 4-cylinder petrol engine with SHVS mild-hybrid technology. The motor makes a top power of 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are on offer. Its manual version promises fuel economy of 18.55kmpl. The S-Cross manual can be had within the price range of Rs 8.39 lakh – Rs 11.18 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Tata Harrier is India’s fourth most fuel efficient SUV offering 17kmpl with the manual gearbox. Its manual variants are available in the price range of Rs 13.99 lakh – Rs 19.24 lakh (ex-showroom). The MG Hector Plus 6/7-seater that received minor upgrades earlier this year, secures the fifth spot.
MG’s three-row SUV uses a 2.0L diesel engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox that pushes out a peak power of 170bhp. The SUV’s diesel version is claimed to offer a fuel economy of 16.56kmpl. Currently, the Hector Plus diesel has been priced between Rs 15.03 lakh – Rs 19.60 lakh (ex-showroom).
