Indian Motorcycle has added a new premium cruiser to its Indian lineup –Chieftain Dark Horse. Priced at Rs 31.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the 2016 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse is the fourth product from the American motorcycle manufacturer launched this year in the country. This new cruiser, similar to the Chief Classic and Dark Horse, is based on the Chieftain and shares the mechanism with the regular model. Though, there are some design changes making it look muscular and sporty.
This blacked out version of the bagger tourer has matte finished fairing, fenders and fuel tank. The chrome bits, too, are replaced with matte black paint. The 2016 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse also gets black finish on the handlebars and switches, engine and air box cover, rear view mirrors, headdress, lower controls, turn signals, tank console, taillight, forks and floorboards. The unique chrome bits on single pinstripe on the fenders and 2-in-1 exhaust add more to its raw appeal.
The aluminium design features the airbox in the frame’s backbone that helps force-feed its 1811cc V-Twin Thunder Stroke 111 engine. This powerplant is capable of punching out a maximum power of 73bhp and 140Nm of torque. For transmission duties, there is a 6-speed gearbox. Braking power comes from 300mm front and rear disc brakes. The cruiser also gets 46mm front fork suspension system. Carrying a kerb weight of 300kgs, the 2016 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse offers a fuel tank capacity of 21-litres.
The Chieftain Dark Horse comes with a wide range of features including a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment cluster with a display of real time clock and ambient air temperature, a power windscreen, Bluetooth-enabled stereo system with smartphone compatibility, remote locking hard saddle bags, desert tan genuine leather seats. Features such as cruise control, anti-lock braking system, hard bags and remote key fob with keyless ignition come as a part of a kit.
