India-Specific Volkswagen Electric Car In the Works

Volkswagen recently unveiled the ID 2 small-battery electric car in its concept avatar previewing the brand’s new design language. Its production version will have three siblings – a Volkswagen small EV, a Skoda variant and a Cupra version. In European market, the Volkswagen ID 2 EV is expected to cost below 25,000 euros. For India, the German automaker will bring in a new entry-level EV that will be based on the VW ID 2 electric hatchback’s MEB front-wheel drive platform. The new Volkswagen electric car is expected to be a compact SUV, measuring above 4 meters.

The company will fully localize its upcoming new electric car and it’s expected to go on sale after 2025. Here, the new Volkswagen electric car might be put up against the Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona EV.

New Volkswagn EV

As of now, there is no official specification details of the VW EV. Talking about the Volkswagen ID 2, the electric hatchback is claimed to do 0 to 100kmph in less than 7 seconds. It will deliver power worth 226PS and offer a WLTP-claimed range of up to 450km. The hatchback’s 57kWh battery can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in nearly 20 minutes.

The German automaker has also planned the Volkswagen ID4 electric crossover for the Indian market. In fact, the company has started testing the vehicle in the country. The model will have a rear-mounted synchronous electric motor and a 77kWh battery.

New Volkswagen Electric car

The setup offers a peak power of 204bhp and 310Nm of torque. The electric SUV accelerates 0 to 100kmph in 8.5 seconds and offers a range of 520km on a single charger (WLTP cycle). Its battery pack can be charged in 30 minutes by using a 125kW DC charger.

Some of its key features include a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 3-zone air conditioning, VW’s adaptive chassis control system, wireless smartphone charger, panoramic sunroof, augmented reality head-up display, powered front seats with massage function, heated front seats, matrix LED headlights, etc.
