VW T-ROC Cabriolet

German premium carmaker, Volkswagen has revealed the drop-top version of the T-ROC SUV. Called the Volkswagen T-ROC Cabriolet, the new model will make its public debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The new Volkswagen T-ROC Cabriolet comes with all-new body and structure. Besides removing the roof, the new Cabriolet receives 37mm longer wheelbase and 34mm longer body. Other design changes include removal of rear doors and distinct rear-end design. The engineers have also improved the structural strength. The structural strength of underbody, windscreen frame, side panels and doors has been improved. The company believes that the new T-ROC Cabriolet will achieve the 5-star Euro NCAP crash test norms.

Similar to the outgoing Golf Cabriolet, the T-ROC Cabriolet soft-top features the roof stowing placed in the compartment above the boot rather than under a panel. It is claimed to be one of the fastest-opening roof. It opens in just 9 seconds via a switch positioned on the centre console at vehicle speeds up to 30kmph. The Volkswagen T-ROC Cabriolet also offers two usable rear seats with sufficient legroom and headroom space. It comes with a boot space of 284-litres, which is around 161-litres less than the standard T-ROC. The doors and roof seals are newly developed to keep the NVH levels down. The VW T-Roc Cabriolet is 4,268 mm long, with a wheelbase of 2,630 mm. The vehicle is 1,811 mm wide (without exterior mirrors) and 1,522 mm high. The driver and front passenger are seated at a comfortable 599 mm over the tarmac (rear seats 616 mm).

The Volkswagen T-ROC Cabriolet will be offered with 2 engine options – a 115bhp, 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 150bhp, 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual gearbox with 1.0L unit and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic with 1.5L engine. The company is not likely to introduce diesel engine option with the Cabriolet. Volkswagen is planning to launch the standard T-ROC SUV in India as a Completely Built Up unit. The new model will arrive under the Indian Government’s new 2,500 unit annual import quota. It is quite early to comment whether the T-ROC Cabriolet will arrive in our market.
