The production version of the upcoming Volkswagen ID.4 electric crossover has been fully revealed. The electric SUV is scheduled to be launched in the international markets later this year. The technical details of the VW ID.4 EV have been published online by Chinese authorities. The SUV will directly rival the upcoming Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Kona Electric.
India Launch
Volkswagen had showcased the I.D. Crozz concept at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. VW has confirmed to launch electric cars in our market and the ID.4 electric crossover could be the first in our market. It is likely to be launched in the second half of 2021. In India, the I.D EV will rival the Hyundai Kona Electric.
Design & Dimensions
The leaked document confirms that the production-ready Volkswagen ID.4 electric crossover measures 4,592mm in length, 1,852mm in width and 1,629mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,765mm. It will join the ID.3 electric hatchback, which is on sale in the European markets.
The crossover shares design and other details from the VW ID.3 hatchback. The VW ID.4 electric SUV will have all-terrain capability. The SUV features slim LED headlamps that are connected by a lightbar at the front-end, which will become a familiar design for the future ID electric range. It features squared off front design, which gives it a bulkier and SUV-like profile.
The rear profile has conventional design, which shares styling from other VW SUVs. The VW ID.4 EV doesn’t use a glass tailgate, which is available in the ID.3 hatch. It comes with full-width LED tail-light bar. The company will offer multiple alloy wheel designs.
Volkswagen ID.4 EV Specs
The VW ID.4 electric crossover will be offered in a single electric motor and rear-wheel drive configuration. A more powerful twin-motor, 4WD version will join the line-up in the future. The VW ID.4 will have rear-mounted motor, which offers 201bhp and 310Nm of torque. The four-wheel-drive version will have a front-mounted electric motor, which will offer additional 102bhp and 140Nm. The combined power and torque stands at 306bhp and 450Nm.
If reports are to be believed, the top-spec VW ID.4 electric crossover could receive 83kWh battery with an electric range of up to 500km. It will come with fast charging option, which will charge battery up to 80% in less than 30mins. The SUV will have a top speed of 160kmph.
