India-Bound Renault Kwid Electric to debut on April 16

Renault Kwid EV is likely to offer an electric range of over 250km.

It is no secret that Renault is working on the electric version of the Kwid hatchback, which has been spotted multiple times in China. The production version of the Kwid EV is scheduled to make global debut on April 16 at the Shanghai Motor Show 2019. The new Kwid EV will be developed nby Dongfeng Motors, which is Renault’s partner in China.

The Renault Kwid EV was first previewed as the Renault K-ZE Concept at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. This car will initially go on sale in the Chinese market and will be manufactured at the Dongfeng’s facility in Shiyan. In terms of styling, the Kwid EV will receive new LED daytime running lights positioned on either side of the grille, while headlamps are placed below the DRLs. The overall styling is similar to the existing model, except for the new set of alloys and re-designed rear bumper and LED tail-lights.

Renault is yet to make an official announcement on the mechanical details of the Kwid EV. It is expected that the new Kwid EV will offer a driving range of 250kms on a single change in the NEDC cycle. The hatchback is also expected to be fitted with fast charging option along with standard that can be charged through home-based plug points.

In India, Renault will soon launch the Triber 7-seater MPV in the next 2-3 months. This model is based on the modified CMF-A platform that also underpins the Kwid. It is quite early to comment whether the Kwid EV will make way to our market or not. However, Renault said that the company will start their electrification program for India post 2020.
