MG Motor will officially launch its first model in India in the first half of 2019. The company will introduce an SUV based on the Baojun 530, which is currently on sale in China. What’s interesting is that the same SUV will also be launched in Indonesia under Wuling nameplate, where it will be called Almaz. Ahead of the launch, the clear interior image of the SUV has hit the web-world.
The SUV’s dashboard features dual-tone scheme with silver accents, which looks premium. The SUV gets Volvo inspired portrait touchscreen infotainment system with controls for climate control and other core functions. This infotainment is also compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirroLink and Bluetooth. The instrument console gets a MID display in middle to show important details about the vehicle. The engine details for the upcoming MG SUV are yet to be revealed. It is most likely to source the diesel engine from FCA, which is a 2.0-litre MJD II unit that also powers the Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier. While powering Compass, this engine produces 173bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. The company could also launch the petrol version of the SUV, which is likely to be a 1.5-litre turbo-unit that also powers the global MG ZS SUV. Both manual and automatic options are likely to be on offer.
