India-bound Hyundai Nexo Among Safest New Cars – Euro NCAP

European car safety oragnisation, Euro NCAP has revealed the ‘Best-in-Class’ performers for its annual safety crash tests in 2018. The top three winners that managed to achieve high scores in their segments include Hyundai Nexo, Mercedes-Benz A-Class and Lexus ES.

While the Nexo is the hydrogen fuel cell SUV, the A-Class and Lexus ES are the all-round performers in the small and large family car segments respectively. The South Korean carmaker confirmed the Hyundai Nexo Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) for the Indian market. Tested in October 2018 by Euro NCAP, the SUV scored the top safety rating with 94% for adult occupant safety, 87% for child safety and 80% for safety assistance.

Euro NCAP Secretary General Michiel van Ratingen, said, “In 2018 we introduced tough new tests, with a particular focus on Vulnerable Road User protection.”

“Euro NCAP put automated driving technology to the test in 2018 for the first time and our findings helped clarify some of the confusion motoring consumers are currently experiencing.  Assisted driving systems can bring safety and convenience benefits but full automation is a long way off.
