Honda, the Japanese automaker that unveiled its new small Urban SUV concept at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show, has confirmed its plans to showcase the production version of the vehicle at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. The compact SUV is already under production, and has hit the testing grounds in Germany.
The Urban SUV will be based on the next-generation Jazz platform, which will also underpin the new City sedan. In India, it will compete against the likes of Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the upcoming Maruti XA Alpha and Hyundai Mini SUV. It will also share most of its components with the hatchback and City sedan.
The compact SUV will source most of its styling cues from the concept, and will have eye-catchy body design with curves, low roofline and a broader stance to give a crossover like look. The company is also planning to introduce this vehicle in Japan by the end of this year. While new Honda Jazz, City and Mobilio will come at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, the compact SUV will be launched in 2015.
