India-bound Ford Figo sedan aka Ka+ launched in Brazil

Ford Ka+ sedan

Ford Ka+ Sedan aka Figo based compact sedan is finally launched in Brazil at an introductory price of R$ 37,890, which accounts for more than Rs. 10 Lakhs, if converted in Indian currency. As known, the Figo based concept made its global debut in India, just a day before the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. This B segment global sedan is expected to launch in India around mid 2015 with the next gen figo hatchback aka Ford Ka.

This production version was teased through a single image by the company a few days back. Although, it measures more than 4-metre but the Indian model would be sub 4-meter as the company would slightly cut the boot to achieve the desired the sub-4 metre length and enjoy the excise duty benefits. Except for the redesigned front bumper, the Figo based sedan is identical to the figo hatch, till the C-pillar. And then, there is the added boot to justify its sedan tag. Even the tail lamp cluster including the greenhouse and doors is mighty close to the hatch. Interiors too are pretty similar as both the beasts boast Ford’s latest Ford SYNC multimedia infotainment system with AppLink system. The dash design and layout is a reminiscent of the Fiesta sedan.

Mechanically, the Ka+ sedan gets a 1.5-litre flex-fuel powertrain which is already doing duties to its elder sibling, Fiesta. This frugal motor musters out 109 bhp of top power and would be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. However, possibilities of an auto transmission can’t be denied under company’s audacious approach to entice more buyers. The Ka and Ka+ siblings would be christened as all new Figo hatchback and Classic sedan, respectively. It is speculated that production might take off on April 1, 2015 at Ford’s Sanand manufacturing unit. It would be providing stiff competition to the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest etc. upon its arrival in the country. And, most likely, it would be priced in bracket of Rs. 5 – 8 Lakhs.
