German luxury car manufacturer Audi will launch the A3 sedan, Cabriolet and hatchback in the Indian car market within this year. First will be the A3 sedan in August, followed by the A3 Cabriolet and hatchback by early next year.  The company has introduced India-bound 2014 Audi A3 Cabriolet in the Australian market at $47,300 (Rs. 28.27 lakh).

The 2014 Audi A3 Cabriolet is reportedly grown bigger in size than its predecessor. Unlike the previous generation model, the new A3 Cabriolet is based on the Sedan model with long and sportier silhouette. For the first time, the vehicle is offered with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system.

Like the Audi A3 hatchback, the Cabriolet is also available in both petrol and diesel guise. The entry level Attraction variant is powered by a 1.4-litre TFSI engine, the mid-level variant gets 1.8L TFSI and the top-spec Ambition has 2.0L TDI engine.  The entry level 1.4-litre TFSI engine produces 140PS of top power and accelerates to 100kmph from standstill in 9.1 seconds. Its 180PS, 1.8-litre TFSI engine sprints to 0-100kmph in mere 7.8 seconds and hits a top-speed of 241kmph. The oil burner is powered by a 2.0-litre TDI engine that produces 150PS of top power. It catches a top speed of 223kmph and accelerates to 100kmph from standstill in just 8.9 seconds.

The Audi A3 Cabriolet’s soft-top electric roof works at speeds up to 50kmph and it can retract in just 18 seconds. With roof down, the A3 Cabriolet offers a decent boot space of 275-litre while on roof up the luggage space increased to 320-litres.

The entry level 1.4 TFSI Attraction is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, front & rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, Aluminium-look interior styling, dual-zone automatic climate, electrically retractable, 5.8-inch colour display monitor and automatic headlights and rain sensing wipers. It also gets leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters and mounted audio and cruise controls.

Along with the standard features, the other top-end models gets 17-inch alloy wheels in ‘star’ design, front leather upholstered adjustable sports seats, fog lights, driver information system and Audi drive select.
