Hyundai to launch Genesis Luxury Brand in India in 2020 – Report

Hyundai Motor Group is aiming to further strengthen its position in the highly competitive Indian market. The Group has introduced its Korean sibling Kia in the country. Post 2020, it will finally launch the Genesis Luxury brand in India. Hyundai Motor Group had introduced the luxury division under Genesis brand in the international markets in 2015.

A new report from Livemint claims that India will get the company-owned Genesis experience centres and small showrooms in select locations. The company is expected to follow the Toyota’s strategy of introducing the Lexus luxury nameplate in India. The company had unveiled the second generation Genesis at the Auto Expo 2016. Later the Genesis model was re-introduced as the G80 under the new Genesis luxury brand.

Genesis is currently selling the G80 executive sedan and the G70 mid-size sedan in the right hand drive configuration. The full-size G90/EQ900 sedan is only available in the left-hand-drive option. Gensis will also introduce the GV80 executive sedan, a mid-sized SUV and a mid-sized sports coupe in the near future. The company could bring the G70 sedan in India to challenge the BMW 3 Series.

Hyundai is gearing up for the launch of the new Kona Electric SUV, which is expected to be priced around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). This B-SUV will be Hyundai’s most expensive and flagship model in the country. Speaking to Livemint, a source close to development, said, “The launch of Kona electric vehicle will also help Hyundai understand what customers in the premium segment expect from electric vehicles.”
