While Mahindra S201 compact SUV is likely to be launched in February 2019, Hyundai’s smalest SUV – STYX – will go on sale in the March 2019.

It is no secret that Mahindra and Hyundai are planning to enter into the sub-4 meter SUV segment. While Mahindra will launch a compact SUV based on the SsangYong Tivoli’s X100 platform, Hyundai will launch a sub-4 meter SUV on the new Santro’s platform. Both these models will challenge the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport.

The Mahindra’s small SUV – codenamed S201 – is in its final stage of testing. It is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2019, most probably in February. The SUV will come equipped with several segment leading features such as 7 airbags, factory-fitted sunroof, dual automatic air-conditioning, four-disc brakes, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and rear parking camera.

The Mahindra S201 compact SUV will also be the most powerful in its category. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that recently debuted in the Marazzo MPV. This engine is capable of producing 123bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. Moreover, the SUV will also the mark the debut of new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer.

Talking about Hyundai STYX, this compact SUV will be launched in the end of March 2019. While the concept model, Carlino, was based on the i20’s platform, the production model will use the low-cost Santro’s platform. This model will sit below the Creta and will be available in petrol and diesel guise. The SUV will mark the debut of two new Hyundai engines – 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and a newly developed 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. This diesel engine will also power the Verna and next-gen Hyundai Creta.
