Hyundai Stargazer MPV Confirmed Via Official Teaser – Kia Carens Rival

Hyundai has officially announced the much-awaited 3-row MPV, the Stargazer via multiple teaser images in Indonesia. The company has also confirmed that the new Hyundai Stargazer entry-level MPV will be launched very soon. It is expected that the new model could be launched at the 2022 GIIAS (Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show) in August.

In a press release, Hyundai said that the Stargazer MPV has been “specifically designed for Indonesia”. The Korean-media report claims that the Hyundai Stargazer will also go on sale in the Indian market. However, Hyundai is yet to make an official announcement on the same. In Indonesia, the Stargazer will rival the Suzuki Ertiga, XL7, Toyota Avanza and the Mitsubishi Xpander.

The new Hyundai Stargazer is likely to be based on the modified K1 platform that underpins the Kia Carens. In fact, Hyundai Group’s smaller SUVs and cars including the Sonet, Venue and the Grand i10 Nios are based on this platform.

The new Stargazer features the traditional 3-row MPV-like body shape with modern design elements. It is likely to measure around 4.5 meters in length. Featuring traditional cab-forward bodystyle, the new Hyundai Stargazer has a unique front design. The sleek LED DRLs are placed above the grille, and it runs across the width. The Hyundai logo is placed between the uniquely shaped grille inspired by the new Tucson and the LED DRLs. The main headlamp is placed lower on the bumper, which looks like a part of the grille.

There is a wide air-dam on the lower bumper, which is surrounded by a silver/chrome finish bar. What’s interesting is that the MPV shares some of the design elements from the new Venue. It gets a newly styled alloy wheels, which are similar to the one offered on the newly launched Venue facelift. Moreover, the tail-lamp design is also inspired by the one available in the Venue. It gets a sharp LED headlamps connected via a sleek LED bar. Hyundai said that the rear profile of the MPV has a Distinctive H Rear Lamp.

What’s Inside?

Hyundai hasn’t revealed the interior of the new Stargazer MPV. It is likely to come with all-new interior with several features shared with the Venue and the Creta. The MPV might get a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity and a digital instrument console. The MPV will get automatic AC, multi-functional steering wheel, rear view camera, rear AC vents and others. The vehicle is also reportedly to get some ADAS features; however, details are yet to be revealed.

Indonesian media report that the new Hyundai Stargazer will come in 4 trim levels – Active, Trend, Style and Prime. It is likely to be priced between Rp 155,000,000 (Approx INR 8.23 lakh) and Rp 202,000,000 (Approx INR 10.72 lakh). The new MPV will be powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the Creta.

The petrol engine is capable of producing 113.4bhp at 6,400rpm and a peak torque of 143.8Nm at 4,500rpm. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and an automatic transmission called IVT (Intelligent Variable Transmission).

Hyundai Stargazer India Launch?

Hyundai is yet to make an official announcement on the launch of the new Stargazer in the Indian market. Moreover, Hyundai is yet to start testing the new model on the Indian streets. Seeing the growing demand for 3-row UVs, Hyundai could bring this MPV in our market in 2023. A possible debut at Auto Expo 2023 can’t be ignored.
