Hyundai Retains No.1 Passenger Vehicle Exporter Title For FY21

Hyundai Motor India retains the title of India’s top passenger vehicle (PV) exporter in fiscal year 2021. The South Korean carmaker exported over 1.04 lakh vehicles between April 2020 to March 2021. However, the company registered a decline of 38.6% as compared to the 1.69 lakh units of FY2020. Maruti Suzuki was second top PV exporter with total export units of 94,938 units. The third and fourth spots are grabbed by Ford and Kia that exported 46,064 and 40,440 passenger vehicles respectively. Nissan came in the fifth place with total export units of 32,390 units.

Meanwhile, the South Korean carmaker is ready to launch the new Hyundai Alcazar 6/7-seater SUV in the country. The model will target the premium SUV segment that includes MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV500. The Alcazar shares its underpinning with the Creta 5-seater along with several design bits and features. Compared to its younger sibling, the new three-row SUV sits on 150mm longer wheelbase measuring 2760mm. In fact, it’s the longest wheelbase in its segment.

Hyundai has confirmed that the Alcazar will come with a 2.0L petrol engine sourced from the Tucson and Elantra. However, the motor has been tuned for generating 7bhp extra power. The SUV’s petrol version will return a claimed power of 159bhp and 192Nm of torque. The diesel model will use a 1.5L turbo unit delivering power worth 115bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both engines will be available with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.

In coming weeks, the South Korean carmaker will bring in the updated Hyundai Aura compact sedan. A new wing spoiler will be available from the lower S trim onwards. While the S manual variant will get steel wheels, the AMT version will come with 15-inch wheels with gun metal finish instead of 3M graphics. The E variant will get 13-inch steel wheels. The Arkamys premium audio system will be removed from the Aura SX and SX (O) trims.
