Hyundai MPV (Maruti Ertiga Rival) Launch In 2021 – Report

New Hyundai MPV India
  • The new Hyundai MPV is likely to be based on the new-gen Creta’s platform.
  • It could be priced somewhere between Rs 8.5 lakh – Rs 14 lakh, and will rival the Maruti Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo.
  • Kia is also working on an all-new compact MPV based on the Seltos platform.

It is no secret that Hyundai is readying an all-new MPV for the Indian market. Previous media report claims that the company could be working on a premium MPV, which will be based on the new-gen N3 platform. The new-gen N3 platform also underpins the new Kia Sorento and the next-gen Carnival. A new media report claims that Hyundai is also working on an entry-level MPV, which will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.

This model could be positioned slightly premium over the Ertiga in terms of pricing. The report suggests that Hyundai could utilise the Venue’s platform and engine specs for the upcoming MPV. However, we believe that the new Creta’s platform will be more suitable for the 7-seater MPV.

The new-gen Creta is based on the new platform that is compatible enough to accommodate 7-seater SUVs or MPVs. In fact, Hyundai is also readying the 7-seater Creta SUV that has been spotted multiple times on foreign soil. Adding to it, Kia Motors is also developing a compact MPV based on the Seltos platform. For people not in the know, the Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta are based on the same platform.

The new Hyundai MPV is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 9 lakh to Rs 14 lakh, and will also rival the Mahindra Marazzo. It is likely to be offered with 2 engine options – a 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. While the former is good for 113bhp and 145Nm, the oil burner produces 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.

Hyundai will also launch the new 7-seater Creta SUV in the country in the end of 2020 or early 2021. Adding to it, the company is also readying a micro SUV, codenamed AX, for the Indian market. This model will be based on the new Santro’s platform and will take on the likes of the Tata HBX and the Maruti Ignis.
