Hyundai Kona Will Enter Production In Coming Months

The fully-electric Hyundai Kona SUV will go on sale this year.

Hyundai had revealed its future product and electric mobility plans for the Indian market at the 2018 Global Mobility Summit. The plan outlines launch of the two SUVs – Kona electric SUV and Nexo fuel-cell vehicle (FCV). The fully-electric Hyundai Kona, that made its India debut at the 2018 Auto Expo, will soon enter into production at the company’s Chennai based facility.

Talking to ETAuto, BC Dutta, Vice-President of Corporate Affairs at Hyundai Motor India, has confirmed that the production of the Hyundai Kona SUV will begin in the second half of this calendar year, which will be followed by its launch. Hyundai has also announced a new investment worth Rs 7,000 crore for its Chennai plant. The major portion of the investment will be dedicated to the Kona electric SUV and the rest will be used for production of other models, machinery and technology updates. Globally, the Hyundai Kona is available with two battery pack options – a 39.2kWh and a 64kWh. While the former delivers a range of 312km, the latter one covers a distance of 482km. In India, we will receive the short-range version of the SUV. It will deliver an electric range up to 350km in a single charge. The battery will take around 60 minutes to get fully charged.
