The Hyundai Kona EV is expected to be priced around Rs 25 lakh

Hyundai will officially launch the long-awaited and its first electric model – Hyundai Kona in India on July 9, 2019. Hyundai had revealed the Kona EV at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. Initially, the Hyundai Kona electric SUV will be brought as CKD unit and assembled at the company’s Chennai plant. The SUV is expected to be priced around Rs 25 lakh.

The company has allotted 1000 units of the SUV for our market; however, the numbers could be increased considering its demand. The South Korean automaker is also aiming to increase its electric vehicle lineup with a new sedan and a few small cars and compact SUVs.

In the international markets, the Hyundai Kona EV with two battery options – a 39kW and a 64kW- delivering an electric range of 312km and 482km respectively. For the Indian market, Hyundai could introduce the 39kW version of the SUV that pushes out power worth 136bhp against 395km of torque. With an electric powertrain, the Kona will be able to deliver a maximum speed of 155kmph. The carmaker claims it can do 0-100kmph in 9.7 seconds. With 100kW DC fast charger, the Kona’s battery can be charged up to 80% in 54 minutes. Using a standard AC socket, it will take around 6 hours 10 minutes for the short range.

The Hyundai Kona EV comes equipped with a closed front grille, revised bumpers, 17-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler. Some of the design highlights include cascading grille, two-tier LED headlamps with LED DRLs on top and main headlamps lower on the bumper, small fog lamps, skid plates, plastic cladding over the wheel arches, black roof and integrated brake light. The Hyundai Kona EV will receive a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Some of the features include a 10-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, leather upholstery, multiple airbags, automatic emergency braking, a lane centring system, adaptive cruise control, etc.
