Hyundai Kona Electric SUV Makes Guinness World Records

The Hyundai Kona electric SUV has registered its name to the Guinness World Records. The electric SUV has driven to an altitude of 5,731 meters to Sawula Pass in Tibet and achieved the feat under category ‘ Highest Altitude Achieved in an Electric Car’. Currently, the Hyundai Kona comes in the price range of Rs 23.71 lakh – Rs 23.9 lakh (ex-showroom).

For power, the Hyundai Kona EV uses a 39.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack coupled to a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The latter one delivers a peak power of 143bhp and a maximum torque of 353Nm. Transmission duties are taken care of by a single-speed automatic gearbox. The electric SUV can do 0 to 100kmph in 9.7 seconds.

Its battery pack can be fully charged in 19 hours via a standard portable charge. The company is also offering a 7.2kWh AC wall box charger that can charge it in 6 hours 19 minutes. Using a 50kWh DC fast charger, the battery pack can be charged up to 80% in 57 minutes. The Hyundai Kona electric SUV is claimed to deliver a range of 452km (ARAI certified) on a single charge.

As of now, the Hyundai Kona doesn’t have any direct rival in the country. Though, MG Motor is all set to bring in the MG ZS EV on 27th January that will be put up against Hyundai’s electric SUV.
