Hyundai To Launch 8 New Cars In India By 2020

Hyundai India also aims to increase production capacity of its Chennai based plant by 50,000 units.

Hyundai India has announced that it will launch 8 new models by 2020. Out of them, the five products will be full-model changes and two models will target new segments. The company will also foray into the electric vehicle (EV) space with the all-new Hyundai Kona SUV. While the new generation Santro is likely to be the first product to hit showrooms, the Tucson and Santa Fe SUV will see also the generation change in coming years. Models like Hyundai Grand i10, Elite i20, Xcent and Creta might also receive major upgrades.

The South Korean carmaker will also introduce an all-new compact SUV based on the Carlino concept that broke cover in 2016 at the Delhi Auto Expo. This new SUV will be positioned below the Creta and take on the Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.

Besides launching the new products, Hyundai India also aims to increase production capacity of its Chennai based plant by 50,000 units. Currently, the facility produces 7 lakh units on annual basis. With the new plan, the South Korean carmaker aims to withstand its arch rival Maruti Suzuki that has been tapping the market at a very fast pace. In June 2018, the South Korean carmaker registered a growth of 19.5 per cent with a total sales of 60,779 units. While the domestic sales of the company stood at 45,371 units, it exported 15,408 units accounting growth of 15.9 per cent. The new Hyundai Creta facelift that received over 70,000 enquiries and over 14,000 bookings so far, was the major volume generator for the carmaker.
