Speaking to FE, Mr. Srivastave said, “Hatchbacks remain India’s favourite cars and enjoy a 68% market-share. Yes, the i20 is among the finest hatchbacks in the country, but we also believe that above the i20, there is room for a very premium hatchback. Therefore, we are planning to come up with a new car that will be slotted above the i20. People are going to love it because it will give them easy manoeuvrability in a congested city environment along with the luxury and space associated with a mid-size sedan.”

Hyundai i30 hatchback is available in both petrol and diesel guise. The oil burner is available in three engine configurations- 1.4L producing 90PS, 110PS 1.6-litre and new 1.6-litre that develops 128PS. On the other hand, the petrol version is also available in three engines- 1.4-litre producing 100PS, 1.6L that develops 120PS and a 1.6L that produces 135PS. All the engines are paired to a six-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmission gearbox.
