Hyundai i20 Variants To Be Rejigged: New Baleno Effect?

Hyundai has been facing a strong competition from the likes of Tata Motors and Mahindra. The company still holds the second position in the list of top automakers; however, Tata Motors is very close to clinch its spot. In order to improve sales, Hyundai plans to introduce updated versions of its existing SUV range including Venue, Creta and the Tucson.

The company is also planning to update the i20 line-up with more features. Hyundai is expected to add new variants in the i20 range & discontinue some existing variants. Hyundai i20 is also facing a stiff competition from the likes of the Baleno & the Altroz. While Maruti has launched the feature-packed new Baleno, Tata is gearing up to introduce the Altroz Automatic.

All-New Hyundai i20 Interior

The new Hyundai i20 is likely to get two new variants, and two current variants will be discontinued. The mid-level i20 Magna variant with 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine will come with a 7-speed DCT gearbox. In the current avatar, this variant is only available with iMT gearbox.

The top-spec i20 Asta(O) with 1.2L petrol engine will come with a CVT automatic gearbox. Earlier, it was offered with a manual gearbox. The i20 Asta trim will only come in two petrol variants – 1.2L MT & 1.0L iMT. The 1.2L CVT & 1.0L DCT Asta variants will be discontinued.

The entry-level Hyundai i20 Sportz trim will come with new comfort features. It will get automatic climate control & cruise control. The Automatic AC is currently offered from the Asta trim, while the cruise control comes in the top-spec Asta(O).

The i20 Asta trim also comes with an electric sunroof. This feature is currently offered on the turbo petrol iMT model. This trim could also get a smaller 8.0-inch touchscreen instead of the current 10.25-inch unit. The fully-loaded Asta(O) will also get additional voice commands for the BlueLink system.
