Seeing the great response for newly launched Elite i20 hatchback, the South Korean automaker is now aiming to further capitalize on the new i20 brand. The company is ready to launch the Elite i20 based crossover in the country, which has been spotted testing again in the outskirts of Chennai. If media reports are to be believed, the crossover will be launched in the market in March 2015.
The spotted i20 Cross was the lower variant. It features smaller alloy rims, while the outside rear view mirrors lacks integrated turn indicators. It is basically a beefed up version of the i20 hatchback with high ground clearance, extra body cladding, new front grille and bumpers, silver roof rails, newly formed alloy wheels, etc. It is equipped with a new exterior body shade.
The Hyundai i20 crossover will share its engine lineup with its hatchback sibling. While the petrol version gets the 1.2-litre VTVT unit that is good for 82bhp, the oil burner is the 1.4-litre U2 CRDi motor that makes 89bhp. The diesel engine is coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox while the petrol motor is paired to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The crossover will rival against the likes of the Toyota Etios Cross, Volkswagen Cross Polo and Fiat Avventura. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 6.5 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh.
