Hyundai India is planning to enter into the growing compact crossover and SUV segments of the country. The company will launch the ix25 compact SUV next year. Before that, Hyundai will launch the Elite i20 based crossover which has been spotted several times on roads of Chennai. Speaking to Hindu, Young Jin Ahn, Chief Coordinator, Sales & Marketing Division, HMIL confirmed the launch of Elite i20 Cross in India by early next year.
Set to rival against the likes of Volkswagen Cross Polo, Toyota Etios Cross and the Fiat Avventura, the Elite i20 Crossover gets various changes to exteriors. The Hyundai ix25 compact SUV would come by second half 2015 and will rival against the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and soon to be launched Maruti S-Cross SX4.
The Hyundai Elite i20 based crossover features a differently styled front fascia with new grille, projector headlamps, front skid guard and new air dam. A lot of body cladding, roof rails and petal-shaped alloy wheels would be on offer to give a sporty touch to it. The company has also raised the ground clearance of the car, which allows the car to tackle Indian road conditions better than the hatchback.
Under the hood, the i20 Cross is likely to share its engine lineup with hatchback sibling. While the petrol engine is the 1.2-litre unit, the oil burner is the 1.4-litre U2 CRDi motor.
