With an aim to enhance occupants’ safety, Hyundai India has introduced 6 airbags on the top-spec Elite i20 Asta (O) variant. The additional side and curtain airbags make it slightly more expensive than before. Now, the Elite i20 Asta (O) petrol and diesel models cost Rs 7.75 lakh and Rs 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Earlier, this particular model was available with dual airbags (driver and passenger) only. In January 2016, Hyundai India offered dual front airbags standard across all variants of the i20 and i20 Active.
Save for the extra airbags, no mechanical changes have been made to the car. The Elite i20 Asta (O) petrol comes fitted with a 1.2-litre Kappa VTVT engine producing 81.8bhp and 114.7Nm of torque. While, the diesel model gets a 1.4-litre U2 CRDI mill delivering 88.7bhp and 219Nm. Since the Asta (O) is the top-ranging model, it comes loaded with all comfort and safety features including 60:40 split rear seats, a 7-inch audio video navigation system, projector headlamps with cornering function.
Besides this, Hyundai will soon introduce an automatic version of the hatchback. The Hyundai Elite i20 automatic will be available only the Magna trim level powered by a 1.4-litre Gamma VTVT petrol engine. This power mill, with a 4-speed automatic gearbox, will deliver 99bhp and 130Nm of torque. The South Korean carmaker is also planning to launch the facelift version of the Elite i20 in 2017.
