Hyundai Creta Vs Kia Seltos – Sales Comparison (FY 2019-20)

Hyundai Creta, the undisputed king of the compact SUV segment, saw fierce competition for the first time in its lifetime in the form of Kia seltos. Thanks to its attractive design, multiple powertrain options and tons of features, the Seltos became the preferred choice for buyers in the segment. And it made no difference that Kia was a new comer. This makes it all the more special as no other new-entrant has received such a response in the last two decades or so. Launched in August 2019, Kia sold a total of 81,984 Seltos units with a monthly average of over 10,000 units. This makes it the highest selling SUV since August, almost double than its cousin Hyundai Creta.

In the same period (Aug 2019 – March 2019), Hyundai Sold a total of 47614 units. In fact the difference between the sales units of two products for the whole financial year (2019-20) is mere 90 units as Hyundai managed to sell a total of 82,074 units. That’s an average of less than 6000 units/month.

Hyundai is now aiming to take back its lost ground with the launch of all-new Creta. Launched in February 2020, the all-new Creta is based on the same platform as the Kia Selots It has the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol, 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre turbo diesel engines that are being offered with the Seltos.

The Creta has automatic transmission offered with all the engine options. Whereas the Turbo petrol gets a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, the petrol gets CVT and the diesel has torque-converter.

Now with multiple powertrain options and a total of 14 variants, will Hyundai be able to regain its lost position. Only time will tell.
