Hyundai Creta, Tucson, Tata Harrier, Mahindra S201 – 7 Seater SUVs In The Works
While Hyundai will launch the 7-seater versions of the Creta and Tucson, Tata will introduce 7-seater Harrier in 2019
Seeing the growing demand for big SUVs, renowned automakers have started working on the next-gen SUVs with 7-seat options for Indian market. What’s more interesting is that brands will launch the 7-seater versions of the existing 5-seater SUVs in future. The Korean brand is working on the next-gen Hyundai Creta, which will be offered in both 5 and 7-seat options.
Not just Creta, Hyundai’s 5-seater premium SUV – Tucson will become a 7-seater premium SUV. If media reports are to be believed, the next-gen Tucson will grow in size and will take Santa Fe’s space. The next model will be premium in nature and will take on the likes of Honda CR-V, Toyota Fortuner and the Mahindra Y400. While the current model is imported into India via CKD route, the next-gen model will be locally developed to achieve aggressive pricing.
Tata Motors will launch the 5-seater premium SUV – Harrier in India in the first quarter of 2019. Moreover, Tata is also working on a 7-seat version of the Harrier. The 7-seater model will be premium in nature and will take on the Mahindra XUV500 and the soon-to-be launched Mahindra Y400. The new Harrier’s 7-seater model will be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces close to 170bhp of power and 350Nm of torque.
Not just Tata & Hyundai, Mahindra is also working on a 7-seater version of the soon-to-be-launched S201 compact SUV. While the S201 will sit below 4 meter in length, the 7-seat model will sit above 4 meter in length. It will rival the next-gen Hyundai Creta.
