Korean automaker, Hyundai has finally started testing the 7-seater version of the new-gen Creta SUV in South Korea. The SUV is reportedly to be launched in the Indian market in 2021. In terms of positioning, the upcoming 7-seater Hyundai Creta will sit right between the 5-seater Creta and the Tucson.

Hyundai is also readying the next-gen Tucson, which is expected to be locally developed in India. The next-gen Tucson for India will be different from the global markets, and will also be offered in 7-seat configuration. The 7-seater Creta will challenge the likes of the next-gen Mahindra XUV500, MG Hector Plus and the Tata Gravitas.

The new-gen Hyundai Creta is based on the modified version of the K2 platform, which also underpins the Kia Seltos, and the Verna and the Elantra sedan. This platform is compatible enough to accommodate a 7-seater SUV. The upcoming Hyundai Creta 7-seater will be a longer version of the 5-seater model; though, the wheelbase of the SUV is likely to remain the same. The increase in length will help the company to add third row of seats. The SUV is most likely to come with a stretched rear overhang to accommodate third row of seats. Adding to it, the 5-seater Creta has a boot space of 433-litres. This space will also be utilised for the third row. However, the SUV will have flexible seats to create extra boot space. The company is also likely to make subtle changes to its styling. It is likely to get slightly revised front grille, flatter roof, new roof-rail and stretched length.

The SUV could receive portrait-styled touchscreen infotainment system with sim-enabled Blue Link connected car technology. The 7-seater Creta is likely to source the engine options with the 5-seater sibling. It will be offered with 3 engines – a 115PS, 1.5L petrol, a 115bhp, 1.5L turbo-diesel and a 138bhp, 1.4L turbocharged petrol. A six-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will come as standard. Other gearbox options will include a CVT with 1.5L petrol, a torque convertor automatic with 1.5L diesel and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic with 1.4L turbocharged petrol.
