We informed you earlier that Hyundai is planning to bring the Genesis luxury car brand in the Indian market. A new media report claims that the company is currently is evaluating its prospects for the Indian market. Adding to it, the brand will enter in our market with an SUV.
The current Genesis portfolio comprise of sedans only, including the G70, G80 and the G90. Two brand new SUVs will soon join the Genesis global line-up. The company will launch the GV80 luxury SUV, which will be based on the Kia Telluride/Hyundai Palisade. This SUV will be followed by a smaller GV70, which will share the platform with the next-gen Tucson.
The report claims that Hyundai believes SUV will be a right choice to mark the entry of Genesis in India. SUVs are hugely popular in our country and the Indian customers are ready to pay premium for them. The luxurious feel to the SUV body type will help Hyundai to justify the premium price tag. Hyundai also plans to bring Genesis cars via the CKD route. This will help the Korean brand to avoid the heavy taxes on fully imported models. Adding to it, Hyundai believes that it will stand a better chance of success with CKD operations for Genesis products.
The exact product details are yet to be known. It is expected that Hyundai could bring the Genesis GV70 in our market. The GV70 is based on the next-gen Tucson platform and will be offered in RHD options. The GV80 is based on the Hyundai Palisade, which is not available in right-hand drive version. It is expected that the Genesis is expected to arrive in our market in 2021. The GV80 will go on sale in global markets in 2020, while the GV70 is likely to arrive in late 2020 or early 2021.
