Hyundai AX1 CUV Wears Less Camo In new Spy Photos, Reveals Rear

Korean automaker, Hyundai is extensively testing its new entry-level SUV – codenamed AX1, in the domestic market. The Hyundai AX1 micro SUV will be launched in the Indian market in 2022. A new set of spy images of the upcoming micro SUV have hit the web world, which reveals the rear and side profile.

The overall styling of the Hyundai AX1 is inspired by the Venue compact SUV. In fact, it looks like a baby Venue sub-4 meter SUV. The rear profile of the new micro SUV shows a roof-integrated spoiler with auxiliary brake light function. The vehicle gets a horizontally placed tail-lamp, and a diamond pattern in the form of a rhombus is applied to the tail lamp graphic.

The reversing lights and turn indicators are designed to look like a single round lamp, and are placed at the bottom of the rear bumper. Like the Venue, the Hyundai AX1 gets strong lines on the tailgate; these strong lines are hiding behind the covers. Also visible are the usable roof-rails and multi-spoke alloy wheels.

The side profile also shares the design elements with the Venue. It features short overhangs, and different beltline for the front and rear doors. The second row door handles are integrated into the C-pillar. Fender has cladding, while the black plastic cladding is expected to be offered all around the body.

The new Hyundai AX1 CUV shares the split headlamp setup with the Venue. While the LED DRLs are placed on the top, the main headlamp unit is positioned lower on the bumper. It features a flat bonnet, pronounced squared-off wheel arches, signature cascading front grille with mesh pattern, etc.  The new model has dimensions similar to that of the Santro, and is expected to measure around 3.7 meters in length.

The new Hyundai AX1 is expected to be powered by a 1.1-litre engine producing 68bhp and 96Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual and an AMT. The company could also add 82bhp, 1.2-litre petrol engine, which currently powers the Grand i10 Nios.
