Hyundai AH2 Small Car Festive Launch Confirmed; Naming Campaign From August 16

New Hyundai Santro 2018

Hyundai confirmed that the new AH2 small car will be launched during festive season Diwali, possibly around October-November.

Hyundai has confirmed that it will launch 8 new cars in the Indian car market by 2020. The first model to go on sale is all-new entry-level hatchback, codenamed AH2. The small car was speculated to be called the next-gen Santro; however, Hyundai has stated that the naming campaign for the new small car will commence from August 16, 2018. We believe that the Santro nameplate will be re-introduced with a suffix.

Hyundai confirmed that the new AH2 small car will be launched during festive season Diwali, possibly around October-November. Besides AH2, the Korean brand has also revealed that its first electric car – Hyundai Kona EV – will be launched in the Indian market in the second half of 2019. The company will also enter into the sub-4 meter SUV space with a new model based on the Carlino concept. The Carlino concept was first showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.

The all-new Hyundai AH2 small car will be the brand’s most affordable car in Indian market, which means Hyundai Eon will eventually phased out from the market in near future. The new AH2 family car with better structural integrity and safety features would take the slot for entry-level Hyundai in India. Also See – Upcoming Hyundai Cars In India

The new Hyundai AH2 will be based on the same platform that also underpins the discontinued i10 model. The new small car will have a tall-boy design and will have the practicality of the popular Santro. The upcoming Hyundai small hatch will be powered by a 1.1-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 68bhp and 100Nm of torque. It will also be the brand’s first model to feature an AMT gearbox. The new Hyundai AH2 AMT variant is likely to be called ‘Smart Auto’. Instead of sourcing this AMT unit from other makers – Magneti Marelli or Ricardo – Hyundai will develop its own AMT and introduce it on its lower-end products.
