Production version of the Honda Urban EV Concept Will Be Launched In 2019

Honda, the Japanese carmaker has unveiled the new Honda Urban EV Concept at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. This concept previews the brand’s all-electric future. The company claims that the production car based on this concept will come in 2019.

Speaking at the unveiling, Takahiro Hachigo, Honda president and CEO said that “This is not some vision of the distant future; a production version of this car will be here in Europe in 2019.” The company hasn’t revealed specs of the Honda Urban EV concept. Honda is yet to reveal battery output, power figures or performance data of this car. Adding to it, there is no information on prospective range or charge time. Styling of the Honda Urban EV concept seems inspired from the original seventies Honda Civic. It features round headlamps, thin A-pillars, and short front and rear overhangs to create extra space for both front and rear occupants. The cabin comes with a minimalist design, featuring huge dashboard with central screen.

Specific design elements indicating towards future of Honda design. It has backlit blue logo, suggesting that the company’s future EVs will get similar logo design. There is an interactive display between the headlights that can display messages such as advice for other road users and charging status updates.

The new Honda Urban EV concept is around 100mm shorter than the Jazz hatchback. Instead of conventional door mirrors, the car features cameras and digital displays. It gets natural fabrics and wood covering on every exposed surface. The EV concept is a four-seater car and the rear-hinged doors offer easy access to the back seats. The Honda Urban EV concept gets Honda’s Automated Network Assistant that will learn from the driver’s behaviours, and apply recommendations dependent on past decision. Additionally, the Power Manager is capable of storing energy generated from renewable sources, with the ability to power the owner’s home or sell electricity to the National Grid.
